From our early days operating from the living room of award-winning Artistic Director Sara Lee, to bringing the transformative experience of creating original music to thousands of marginalised people in prisons and the community, the Irene Taylor Trust (registered charity no. 1073105) is celebrating reaching the significant milestone of 30 years.

This series of portraits by Lizzie Coombes – including project participants, musicians and the people behind the scenes – reflects the joy of creativity and the importance of empowering people from all walks of life with opportunities to grow, to change, to be seen, heard and celebrated.

Creating original music collaboratively has a powerful impact on people’s lives, bringing new confidence, skills and raised aspirations for the future. Our programmes support positive change, helping young people experiencing challenging circumstances in the community and people impacted by the criminal justice system to develop transferrable skills which boost employability, enhance wellbeing, and offer a platform to ensure their voices are heard and talents recognised.

Lizzie Coombes has worked as a photographer/artist since 1990 and has a long track record of cross art form collaboration and innovative community projects. She has worked with the Irene Taylor Trust on special projects since 2000, including our commission for the 2012 Cultural Olympiad Beyond This. Follow her on Instagram @lizziecoombesphoto and @bettylawless.
