10 years of Sounding Out & Making Tracks
The Irene Taylor Trust has been inspiring people through Music in Prisons projects since 1995; in 2012 we extended this work ‘through-the-gate’ into the community with the Sounding Out programme for former prisoner musicians, and Making Tracks, an initiative for young people experiencing challenging circumstances. The resulting original music gives a unique insight into the lives of people who are often marginalised and undervalued; they have important stories to tell, experiences and talent that audiences need to hear and see.
To mark the 10th anniversary of our community-based work, we brought artists and musicians from both programmes together to collaborate on creating new material, featured as part of our special showcase performance at Rich Mix in September 2022. The performance was also made available via livestream, the recording of which is now available on our YouTube channel.
Inside Job Productions created three beautiful short films with us to give our participants and musicians a chance to reflect on the impact working with us has had for them.
