Back in the Windy City working with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra

Artistic Director Sara and experienced Project Leader Rex are back on the other side of the pond for our eighth commission from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s Negaunee Institute since 2013.

They will be sharing our expertise with CSO Civic Fellows over two projects; working with young people advocating a reduction of gun violence, via the Notes for Peace project, which creates moving musical tributes to people loved ones lost through gun violence; they will also return to Illinois Youth Centre to create music with young men in prison, enhanced with an ensemble of classical musicians for the final performances.

Music Matters

Last summer, BBC Radio 3’s ‘Music Matters’ aired a special programme celebrating the innovative outreach work Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s Negaunee Institute is undertaking under the guidance of Riccardo Muti and Yo-Yo Ma, including the projects we are involved in. Sara was interviewed for the programme about the Notes For Peace initiative.

Sara’s postcards from Chicago

As with past projects commissioned by the CSO, Sara will be keeping us in the loop through her occasional digital postcards!
