Track of the Month – ‘Sleepy Eyes’
“Working with women on the song book for children was a very powerful experience. To create something that had such a strong connection to their lives, that is, their children or grandchildren, was very moving.” Nick Hayes, Music in Prisons project leader
Sleepy Eyes is a track from the ‘Beyond the Secret Door’ songbook. In 2003 Music in Prisons delivered a project to help women inside prison to connect with their children on the outside by creating a series of songs with them in mind. The project encompassed three prisons, brought on board writer Peter Spafford and artist/photographer Lizzie Coombes, and resulted in a beautiful songbook.

A similar approach is being taken as part of the current special project in Chicago, working with young parents to create lullabies for their children.
