Job opportunity: Musician in Residence, Rainsbrook Secure Training Centre

The Irene Taylor Trust is excited to announce a new freelance position of Musician in Residence at Rainsbrook Secure Training Centre as part of our Music in Prisons programme.

We’re looking for a versatile freelance musician who has experience of teaching guitar, keyboards, percussion, song-writing and music production, to work with young people to provide an on-going intervention and support.

Rainsbrook houses young men and women aged 12 – 17 years old. Working in a secure environment is an amazing experience and you will take as much from it as you give; it requires a different approach to more ‘conventional’ teaching; you will need to be able to instantaneously adapt to the environment, the young people and the style of music and cater for the vastly different musical experiences, abilities and expectations of the individuals with whom you will be working.

Job Title: Musician in Residence
Place of work: Rainsbrook Secure Training Centre, Rugby, CV23 8SY
Rate of pay: £200 per day, 1 day a week (inclusive of planning and monitoring)
Contract: 12 Month Freelance Contract with option to extend

Closing date for applications: Monday 15th July 2019, 12pm
Interviews: Monday 22nd July 2019, at Rainsbrook Secure Training Centre
Start date: September 2019 (dependent on prison clearance and DBS being completed)

Application process: Read the full Musician in Residence Job Description which includes the person specification.

Please send your CV outlining relevant experience, the instruments that you play and a short covering letter explaining why you would be appropriate for the role and include 2 links to your work (your music and/or you in action via YouTube/Soundcloud) and send to jake@irenetaylortrust.com

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend a formal interview, following which they will run a short creative session.

Employment is subject to two satisfactory employment references and confirmation of eligibility to work in UK. As the position will involve contact with vulnerable individuals, employment will be subject to prison security clearance and/or an enhanced DBS. This can take between 1 – 3 months to complete.

Unfortunately, due to the anticipated volume of applications, we will only be able to respond to applicants who have been shortlisted for interview.
